DOROTHY FOR BUTTERFIELD TRAIL VILLAGE MAGAZINE | ARKANSAS EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHER

One of my regular projects is to shoot the main story images for the Butterfield Trail Village magazine called Butterfield LIFE. It's put together by Aaron, Michelle & crew at Vantage Point Communications in Fayetteville. Every couple of months, usually without missing one unless I'm out of town, I head over to BTV and meet some wonderful people and take photos of them and their living space. For the most recent issue, it was Dorothy Mitchelson, a resilient holocaust survivor with a wonderful smile.

I never know what I'm getting into when I head over to do photos for this magazine. Sometimes, the profile subject will be a skilled woodworker. Sometimes, a political activist. A retired geology professor. It's always a gamble, and always interesting. I would never have known that Dorothy and her mother escaped Germany in 1952 after spending time at Dachau by her sweet demeanor and killer smile if I hadn't gone and met her. She was full of life, even while living in a retirement home, which can be said for most of Butterfield Trails' residents.

After getting a nice note from Aaron about the photos this time around ( "Your Dorothy M. BTV pics are AHH-MAZING!!! What a smile! She’s so bright and lively, and you captured that essence perfectly" ), he sent me a photo of a note that she had written to the BTV marketing team:
